An image that changes when someone moves is one of the starting points of Digital by Nature. Since 3 October, Museum de Fundatie in Zwolle has presented a survey of Miguel Chevalier’s work, with nearly 120 works from different stages of his career.

Four large interactive installations form the heart of the show. Visitors’ movements affect the images, so no display is exactly the same twice. Electronic compositions by Jacopo Baboni Schilingi change along with them.

Alongside digital projections are sculptures, videos, robot drawings, machine-made embroidery and tapestries. Some works use AI; others begin with flowers, corals, crystals or microscopic images of underwater organisms. Some were made especially for Zwolle.

The exhibition grew out of a presentation at Kunsthalle München, where Digital by Nature was shown from September 2025 to March 2026. The concept was adapted and expanded for Zwolle. Chevalier has worked with computers since the early 1980s.

Digital by Nature is on view through 4 April 2027. In December, Pixel Waves will also appear on the museum façade for fourteen days; the exact dates have not been announced.
