Wereldmuseum Amsterdam becomes a dance floor: DISCO exhibition from Saturday

From 10 October an entire floor of the Wereldmuseum Amsterdam turns into a dance floor. DISCO shows how the music of New York's underground clubs grew into a worldwide movement.

From Saturday 10 October, a floor of 835 square metres in the Wereldmuseum Amsterdam turns into one big dance floor. With the exhibition DISCO, the museum says it is bringing "a sizzling ode" to the influential music movement.

More than beats and glitter

Disco emerged in the twentieth century in the underground clubs of New York, writes the museum, and in the 1970s grew into a worldwide social revolution centred on freedom, inclusivity and self-expression. The museum therefore sees disco as a "mirror of a social revolution".

Visitors dance their way through hundreds of original disco tracks, videos, art, fashion and design, and so experience the connecting power of disco, the museum promises.
