Crafts at the shipyard
The smithy, wood-carving workshop and sailmaker’s loft show that a ship is made up of many specialised workshops. Follow one component from raw material to its place on board.
A waterschip under construction
The rebuilding of a sixteenth-century waterschip (a traditional Zuiderzee fishing vessel) makes the construction steps visible. Ask which parts are based on historical evidence and where modern safety or material choices play a role.
Batavia temporarily closed
The replica was at its last mooring until 30 August 2026 and is being relocated. The shipyard and exhibitions remain open, but a ticket currently does not give access to the ship.
Before you go
Do not plan a visit to the inside of the Batavia. Check when the ship will be accessible again after the move; this has not been confirmed.
