A collection of widely varying shapes
The museum website mentions chisels, skates and toys, among other things. With a chisel, you can try to read its use from its shape; with toys, recognition and movement play a different role. It is precisely these differences that make it interesting to look at the objects side by side.
The workshop as a link
A workshop display forms a link between the tools and the finished product. Use the presentation to work out which operation a tool makes possible. A simple question about a cut or a joint can tell you more than memorising all the names.
The town comes into view too
The presentation described covers the history of IJlst and its shipyards, a film and a model of a polder mill. This lets you link the collection to a broader interest in work and water in the town.
Before you go
The upper floor cannot be reached by lift. The schedule varies by season; also check public holidays and extra holiday openings.
