The shop still trades
The ground floor is free to enter and functions as the museum shop. See how tins, packaging and the till shaped the contact between shopkeeper and customer, at a time when many products were still weighed out or came from stock.
Cellar and coffee room
Beneath the shop lies an old wine cellar with a trough vault (troggewelf). The former living rooms now house a coffee room. This lets you see how trade, storage and living fitted together within one narrow town house.
Above the shop
On the upper floor, a paid exhibition tells the history of the grocery trade. Only take the stairs once you have gathered details downstairs: the explanation upstairs then gives context to what you have just seen in use.
