A harbour as an open display
From the Willemskade you can see different types of historic inland vessels together. Compare bow, deck height and hold: the shape of each ship gives clues about its cargo, sailing area and daily work.
Ships with a life of their own
The research card mentions, among others, a tjalk, a klipper and a tugboat. These are not static museum pieces. Maintenance, habitation and use partly determine what you see from the quay, while the ships themselves are not freely accessible.
Stânfries X
The Stânfries X is owned by the foundation and can be viewed by appointment. The sources supplied contradict each other on the year of construction and the shipyard, so do not treat those details as a fixed part of the visitor story.
Before you go
The quay is public, but that does not mean you may board the ships. For the Stânfries X you need to make an appointment in advance.
