Many kinds of sources
The research card mentions newspapers, books, photographs, films, sound, manuscripts, letters and the archives of organisations. Think in advance about which type of source you are looking for; a photograph answers different questions from a letter or a newspaper report.
Working in the reading room
The reading room has workstations and spaces for silence or discussion. Archive documents often have to be requested in advance. A focused subject and a few search terms therefore make a visit more productive than simply browsing through catalogues.
Exhibitions alongside research
Changing exhibitions and literary events make parts of the collection visible even without a research appointment. Check the programme, as the material on show and the reason to visit change over the course of the year.
Before you go
If you want to see original archive documents, it is best to request them in advance. According to the research card, there is no evening opening in July and August.
