How Het Bildt came into being
The archaeological centre covers dyke building and the salt-marsh landscape. Look at maps and finds with the question of how land, water and human intervention influenced each other; that immediately gives the surroundings outside more meaning.
Changing art
Regional artists show work in temporary group exhibitions. Because the line-up changes, the calendar is part of your preparation. In the gallery, look for a work that responds to landscape, village or the Wadden.
Church and butterfly garden
The Julianakerk and the butterfly garden give the visit two other spaces. Take the transition seriously: in the church, architecture and silence play a part; outside, season and weather determine how many butterflies or flowering plants you see.
Before you go
The site is closed from January to February. Outside the summer season, opening is limited to weekends and public holidays, with the exception of Christmas Day.
