A workshop beneath the street
The medieval cellar is the spatial anchor of the visit. Look at the brickwork, dimensions and position, and ask which use has been archaeologically established and which is reconstructed.
Replicas for a close look
Copies of illuminated manuscripts show details that are hard to see in fragile originals. Compare colour, border decoration and figures, and keep clearly in mind that these are replicas.
Film plus the guide’s story
Every visitor joins a guided tour of about 75 minutes. The guide connects Johan Maelwael and the Van Lymborch brothers to Nijmegen and answers questions by the reproductions.
Before you go
Preferably book a guided tour Wednesday to Sunday; the cellar is not accessible by wheelchair or rollator, and no Museumkaart (Dutch museum pass) applies.
