The museum presents realist and figurative art by various artists and organises temporary exhibitions. Choose two works with a related subject. Look first at light, framing and material before you decide which work appeals to you most.
The same tin never becomes the same painting
In the Canto Collectie, according to the museum, the same food tin recurs in 124 paintings. Use that repetition as a test of looking: where does the background change, where the viewpoint and where the meaning? The everyday subject makes the differences between the paintings all the more visible.
Art in a long farmhouse
The galleries are in an elongated farmhouse, and the museum states that around 400 works are on view at any one time. Don’t try to look at everything for the same length of time. In each room, choose one work you would like to find again and consider which detail decided your choice.
Before you go
The museum has an annual winter closure, and the Museumkaart (Dutch museum pass) and other museum passes are not valid. Groups of twenty or more can book time slots outside the regular schedule.
