Start with the marsh
At Terra Mora, the relationship between the marsh and the fortress is the central theme. Among other things, the presentation uses a bird’s-eye experience with sound, wind and other effects. Afterwards, ask yourself outside where you can still recognise something of that environment in today’s landscape.
Compare soldier and officer
De Baracquen shows furnished soldiers’ quarters; the Kapiteinswoning presents an officer’s house as a period room. Visit them one after the other and compare bed, storage and available space. What differences does the furnishing tell you without your first having to read a long text panel?
Choose your own route through the fortress
Besides the museums, the organisation offers an interactive AR tour and activities such as firing your own cannon or making a candle. Choose one digital or hands-on activity that ties in with something you have seen indoors; that way it is not a separate attraction but another way of looking.
Before you go
The fortress and the information centre offer wider access than the museums. Buy museum tickets at the information centre and note the separate seasonal schedule of the museum venues.
