Reading a sampler slowly
Look first at the layout and then at smaller patterns or letters. Ask which technique and function belong to the piece. A marking sampler and a darning sampler may both look like needlework at first glance, but do not necessarily serve the same purpose.
Different origins
The collection includes material from several countries. Let the explanations make clear which differences in execution or use are meaningful. Avoid a quick ranking by age or ornamentation; a modest piece can tell you a lot about a way of working.
Arranging a house visit
The guided tour lasts about two hours and is combined with coffee or tea and tart (vlaai). Ask by phone about the current price, group size and accessibility. There are no fixed weekdays on which you can walk in without an appointment.
