Take time over subject, colour and composition before asking about the meaning. Your own first impression can be a good starting point for a conversation about the work.
Discussing symbols
The artist offers explanations of themes such as Hope and Support (Hoop en Houvast). Use his explanations to look again and see which parts of the image relate to them.
A private appointment
The studio and museum have no free daily walk-in. Discuss in advance how many people are coming and whether the artist himself will be available to explain during the visit.
