An avenue as a whole
Do not head straight for the next tree; look at the avenue first. Notice the rhythm of the trunks, the space between them and the direction in which your gaze is led. The garden can be viewed both as a landscape and at very close range.
Comparing horse chestnuts
The Aesculus collection is a special part of the arboretum. Choose two horse chestnuts and compare what you can see at that moment, for example leaves, trunk or crown. Which differences stand out? Use any explanations on site to explore your observations further.
Stepping inside
In the entrance building, the exhibition changes monthly. Ask which subject is currently on show and include it in your route. That way the garden walk gains an extra element, even if you mainly came for the trees.
Before you go
Bring a debit card. If you have limited mobility, ask about the paths; dogs are not allowed, but assistance dogs are.
