Seeing space and work together
Start in a large hall and see how a work relates to the space. Then move closer, as far as that is permitted. The shift between overview and detail can change your attention without you having to pin down a meaning straight away.
Into a smaller room
The wool storage rooms give the visit a different rhythm. Compare the way you look there with the way you look in the hall. What do you notice about distance, light and the time you spend with a work? Give yourself room to stay with a single work.
Following the current programme
The exhibitions change. Reopening after an exhibition changeover has been announced from 20 September 2026; check which displays are open on the day of your visit. A break in the café or the garden can interrupt the visit before you carry on looking.
Before you go
Check the current programme. Thursday has late opening; Monday is normally closed, with separate arrangements for public holidays.
