Start with something you recognise and read why the museum shows it. Use and decoration can each open up a different story. This way an everyday object gets attention it might not easily receive outside the museum.
Images in their setting
Visual culture is also about the way people use and understand images. See what context the display provides. An image can be attractive, familiar and historically specific all at once; the explanation helps to keep those layers apart.
A changing addition
Temporary exhibitions place different emphases alongside the permanent collection. Check the programme before you come. The regular afternoon schedule has various exceptions around Carnival and public holidays. Ask about accessibility in advance if the historic building may pose a limitation.
