The term ‘genie’ (military engineers) is not self-explanatory for every visitor. So start with the general explanation of tasks and history. Ask which subjects the current display covers before you go deeper into individual sections.
Following your own question
After that overview, choose one subject to spend longer on. Which activities are explained, and how does the museum place them in their time? That way the introduction stays manageable, even without prior knowledge of military organisation or technical terms.
Barracks days affect opening
The regular public days are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Regimental activities can also lead to closure, even on one of those fixed days. Check the current overview before you set off, and ask about access to and accessibility of the barracks grounds if you have questions about them.
