A material as a way in
Egyptian and Greek pottery, Roman glass and textiles offer concrete points of reference. Choose a material and see how form and use are explained. That makes a broad collection easier to approach than trying to take in everything at once.
From object to representation
The Gipsengalerij (Plaster Cast Gallery) and GeoZone show other kinds of material again. A cast or a map raises different questions from an excavated object. Notice what is original, reproduction or model and what role that plays in the presentation.
Distinguishing museum and research
The museum galleries have a different timetable from the reading room. If you only want to see exhibitions, follow the museum information; separate arrangements apply for targeted research or a special library. Temporary exhibitions can also change your route.
