Miniatuurmuseum Amsterdam asks you to look slowly

On the Museumplein, small worlds with scale, perspective and detail build a route in which everyday scenes suddenly become visible from a bird’s-eye view.

Plan your visit ↗

Scale as an agreement

Look for a door, vehicle or figure that lets you estimate the proportions. Then compare two scenes and see whether they maintain the same scale consistently.

A story in a detail

A miniature world often tells its story through small actions. Choose one figure at the edge and deduce what is happening only from visible objects, without inventing a complete backstory.

Light and viewpoint

Lighting can suggest day, night or depth. Crouch down and look at the same scene at a figure’s eye level to notice how the composition changes.

Before you go

Sunday–Thursday 10.00–18.00 and Friday–Saturday until 19.00; closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
