Colour through the years
Compare an early Dutch work with a later painting from France. Look at palette, brushstroke and subject, and use the dates so that you do not see development as a sudden break in style.
Letter beside canvas
Letters put plans and doubts into words, but they are addressed to a specific recipient. Read one extract next to the work and keep the difference between intention and final execution in mind.
Temporary beside permanent
Exhibitions place Van Gogh alongside contemporaries or a theme at no extra charge. The time slot applies to the whole museum; Friday evening opening varies by calendar date.
