Start with the landscape
First look at the three windmills as a whole. The film about the reclaimed lake (droogmakerij) then explains the landscape and the work of the mills. With that context, it becomes easier to ask questions inside about what the machinery had to do.
Following the mechanism
At the mill mechanism, take one component as your starting point and follow the explanation of how it works. In the barn (kapschuur), carriages and mill equipment add other objects. Not every piece has the same function; the explanations help you make the connection.
A family in the mill
The living quarters shift your attention from water management to daily life. See how living and working sit side by side in the presentation. That combination gives the mill a different meaning from a silhouette you know only from outside.
Before you go
The mill is not wheelchair accessible; the visitor centre and grounds are. Check the season and when the ticket desk closes.
