The space plays a part
Look at a work first on its own and then in relation to the space of the fort. What changes in your impression when you take the building into account too? The historical setting need not be the only thing that determines the meaning of the artwork.
Looking further outside
On the island, the scale of looking changes. An outdoor work stands in a different setting from something in an exhibition space. Take your time over that transition and compare how distance and viewpoint affect your perception.
A changing programme
The Kunstfort organises changing exhibitions and programmes, including some around science fiction. So check what is currently on. If you would rather learn more about the military history, you can request a historical guided tour; this is a different kind of visit from looking at art on your own.
Before you go
Check the exhibition and the gate opening. Access to the fort building differs from access to the free fort island.
