The foundation describes a gear transmission between the engine and the scoop wheels. During a guided tour, try to follow the movement step by step. Where does the drive originate, and where does the installation meet the water?
A polder as the reason why
A film and presentation cover the water management of Mastenbroek. Carry that story with you to the installation: what task did the pumping station have to perform in the landscape? A machine becomes easier to understand once you know what problem it was built to tackle.
A Steam Day is not a given
The calendar determines when the public is welcome and whether the machine can be shown running under steam. Maintenance and boiler inspections can limit the latter. The visitor centre, moreover, sometimes has different opening hours than a full demonstration.
