The task behind the implement
Choose an object whose shape makes you curious. Look in the explanation for the task it was used for. That makes a collection of tools easier to understand than simply memorising a list of names and dates.
Movement on film
Video about how things were used can show what remains hidden in a stationary implement. Then look at the object again: which part do you now understand better? An image of use and a preserved object complement each other in different ways.
Paintings in the same visit
Paintings and murals are also part of what is on offer. Look at how a painted scene directs attention, compared with the objects beside it. An artist can place emphases that you can then discuss with the help of the museum’s explanations.
