Buildings under earth
The guide leads you through narrow passages, stairs and cool rooms. Note the earth covering, field of fire and materials, and wear clothing suited to an indoor temperature of around twelve to fourteen degrees.
Gun tower with a seasonal limit
From mid-September to mid-April, a bat roost severely restricts access to the tower. Ask which alternative part of the tour takes over the story of the defences during that period.
The brewery does not run on the museum's schedule
The tasting room, campsite and fort buildings share the same complex but have different managers and hours. An open door at the tasting room does not mean a guided tour of the buildings is available.
Before you go
Book the Sunday tour at 14.00; the grounds themselves are open during the day, but the buildings are not freely accessible.
