An enclosed French garden
The geometric inner garden is part of the almshouse as a designed living environment. Look at sightlines, planting and the transition to the dwellings, and bear in mind it may close in bad weather.
Vegetables above castle remains
Fruit, herbs and forgotten vegetables grow in the Nutstuin. Beneath this practical garden lie remains of the former Kasteel van Leerdam; ask how these two layers of time are explained.
Box bed, lamp and peat
The Stijlhuisje shows domestic life around 1900, with a box bed, oil lamps and fuel. Compare the small space with the communal character of the almshouse.
Before you go
Open until 31 October 2026, Wednesday to Saturday afternoon and only in fine weather; book the guided tour and check whether the Regentenkamer is open to view.
