The long ropewalk
The length of the building is part of the technique: strands have to be stretched over a distance. Walk the length of the ropewalk and see where force, twisting and guiding take place.
Making rope yourself
A hands-on activity lets you feel the resistance and the need for teamwork. Compare your result with museum examples for evenness, thickness and finish, without equating a short trial with historical craftsmanship.

Material from Touwfabriek G. van der Lee links hand craft with organised production. Films show movement that is hard to read from tools at rest.
