From curl skate to noor
Curl skates (krulschaatsen) from around 1850 and later noren (Norwegian skates) show changes in material, fastening and skating style. Compare the blade, the connection to the shoe and the length, and ask which dating can be proven.
Objects with unusual origins
A pair of bronze noren and an Olympic outfit have striking stories of how they were found. Treat oral provenance as part of the collection history and ask what else has been documented.
Collector and skater
Jan van Eijk’s own history in marathons and the Elfstedentocht (Eleven Cities Tour) lends personal knowledge to the tour. It remains a private home collection without its own website or fixed schedule.
