Objects with a function
A chalice or reliquary is not just a work of art. Look at the shape and decoration, and then read what the object was used for. That way, even without a church background, you can understand which questions the museum raises with it.
Sculptures and manuscripts
The collection includes medieval art, sculptures and written material, alongside contemporary religious art. This makes it possible to compare different ways of depicting and storytelling. The former convent complex gives your walk round a spatial setting of its own.
Not all galleries available
The Utrecht galleries are listed as temporarily closed for renovation. Check the current programme if that is specifically what you are coming for. On Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays the museum opens later than on ordinary weekdays; payment is by debit card or credit card only.
