Define the artist, title, period or owner as precisely as possible. A clear search question helps you combine the database, visual material and paper documentation in a focused way.
A database is not final proof
A record points to sources and provenance, but may be uncertain or incomplete. Read notes, dating and references before you adopt any data.
The reading room requires preparation
Check the access conditions and available collections, and bring only permitted materials. Telephone hours are shorter than the building’s opening hours.
Before you go
Monday–Friday 10.00–17.00; closed at weekends. The RKD is wheelchair accessible and has additional closing days around Christmas. Ask in advance whether the archive material you are looking for can be consulted physically, digitally or only under supervision.
