Schaakstukkenmuseum awaits a new move

The collection of more than a thousand chess sets has left the cube house on the Overblaak; a new chess café with a museum function in Kralingen had been announced.

Plan your visit ↗

The old venue is closed

The cube house closed on 2 November 2025. The seasonal hours still on the website belong to Overblaak and are not a valid visiting schedule.

Chess sets remain the subject

The collection includes classic, political, humorous and artistic sets. Without a confirmed display, it is unclear which parts are on public view again.

Kralingen remains a plan

A venue on Avenue Concordia and a phased opening were planned for 2026. First check whether the chess café and museum have actually opened.

Before you go

The Overblaak 94 venue is closed. Old hours of 11.00–17.00 or 16.00 no longer apply. No confirmed fixed schedule is yet available for the announced new venue in Kralingen. Do not travel without current confirmation of the reopening.
