Notice masonry, openings and joints, and ask which building phase they represent. A ruin shows change, not a single frozen moment in the castle’s life.
A plan fills the gaps
Ask whether a map or reconstruction drawing is available to place rooms that have disappeared. Keep archaeological remains and any drawn hypothesis visibly separate.
Activities change the setting
‘Inhabited’ days (bewoonde dagen) and events may add extras or educational activities. Check the programme and price; a themed day is not a regular opening.
Before you go
In season Saturday and Sunday 11.00–17.00. Winter closure from 1 November to 5 March 2027; visits then by appointment only. Annual dates and events may change. The ruin site is uneven, so check accessibility in advance.
