The Zuiderzeemuseum in Enkhuizen opens Worth of Wool on Friday 23 October. It is therefore not yet open to visitors on 21 October. At the Schathuys, the museum plans to show how wool served for centuries in clothing and household goods, and why Dutch sheep’s wool now often goes unused. The museum displays historical woollen objects from its collection in the Schathuys, while designers and innovators explore new applications.

The announced display brings historical woollen objects together with contemporary projects. The exhibition is designed as a sensory experience. In the Wollab, the museum says visitors will be able to look closely at, touch and smell wool. Interactive elements include repairing woollen clothing and finding the point at which wool feels itchy.

The exhibition also asks a practical question: what happens to a locally available material when the large-scale processing chain has largely disappeared from the Netherlands? The museum names Christien Meindertsma, Hollands Wol Collectief and PLEED among the participants. the first announced guided tour is on Saturday 24 October.

Worth of Wool will be at the Schathuys, Wierdijk 12, Enkhuizen. The museum lists daily Schathuys hours of 10am to 5pm; the Zuiderzeedorp remains open through 25 October 2026.
