American Dream opens Friday as a small presentation in Den Bosch

From 16 October, Design Museum Den Bosch shows jewellery and objects from its collection that question the promise of the American Dream.

On 14 October, American Dream is still listed as forthcoming by Design Museum Den Bosch. The small presentation opens on Friday 16 October 2026 and, according to the museum’s own website, runs through 17 October 2027. Its official title is American Dream; the word “The” belongs to the explanation of its theme, not to the presentation’s name.

The museum describes the American Dream as a promise of prosperity and success for everyone. With jewellery and objects from its own collection, it asks for whom that promise comes true. The presentation is therefore about more than American design: it explores the tension between ideal and experience as the museum itself frames it.

The display brings together works by Rhonda Zwillinger, Keith Haring, Göran Kling and Carolyn Kriegman. Alongside jewellery about wealth and desire, it addresses war, exclusion and hopes left unfulfilled.

A caption on the museum’s website identifies Gold key $4 by Martí Guixé from 2002 as an example of the objects on display. The two images with this article do not show works from the exhibition: they depict an imaginary museum entrance and an empty gallery.

The museum estimates a visit will take ten to twenty minutes, in keeping with its description of a “small presentation”. Visitors wanting to stay longer will also find Jamie Reid: Believe in the Ruins on the museum website, running through 15 November 2026. The two presentations cover different subjects.

Design Museum Den Bosch is at De Mortel 4, 5211 HV ’s-Hertogenbosch. Its visitor page gives opening hours of 11 am to 5 pm, Tuesday through Sunday. Since American Dream does not open until 16 October, 14 and 15 October are too early for a visit to this presentation.

According to the museum’s visitor information, adults aged thirty and over pay €15, while visitors aged eighteen to thirty pay €7.50. Children under eighteen and Museumkaart holders enter free. Checked on 12 October 2026. Check the programme when planning a visit.
