Bakkerijmuseum: seeing, smelling and understanding bread

Four connected monuments form a museum in Hattem where baking tools, a working bakery and demonstrations make the history of bread and pastry tangible.

Plan your visit ↗

From raw material to oven

Historic machines, moulds and tools show how many steps precede a loaf of bread. Follow the route as a production chain and compare handwork with mechanical aids.

Bread show with explanation

During the bread shows, the craft is both performed and explained. Choose a spot where you can see the hands and the oven well; the demonstration makes differences in dough, temperature and timing understandable.

Shop and poffertjes parlour

A shop scene from around 1900 and the poffertjes parlour place baking within sale and everyday use. This takes the story beyond mere technique in the bakery.

Before you go

Reservation is compulsory. The visitor information states a later start time on weekdays than on Saturdays and during school holidays; check your time slot.
