De Weistaar: cheese and butter in a farmhouse setting

In Maarsbergen, a free museum combines dairy-making tools with little streets, dolls in traditional dress and a game based on old proverbs.

Plan your visit ↗

From milk to cheese

Tubs, moulds and other tools set out the steps of curdling, pressing and ripening. Use the DVD explanation to find the right action for each object.

Butter takes a different route

Churning and processing differ from cheesemaking. Compare the tools and identify which product, pace and end result are central to each process.

Proverbs in scenes

Dolls and set pieces depict old Dutch expressions. Guess the meaning first, then check the explanation; this way, language becomes an active part of the museum route.

Before you go

The museum, farm shop and lunchroom are open to passing visitors Tuesday to Saturday 10.00–17.00; no walk-in access on Sunday and Monday. Groups can arrange a visit outside regular hours.
