De Oude Bakkerij puts dough and chocolate to work

In Medemblik, the museum combines a working bakery with demonstrations, marzipan, chocolate and ongoing children’s activities.

Plan your visit ↗

Hands in the dough

Follow weighing, mixing, rising and baking as a chain. During a demonstration, watch temperature and timing and compare hand tools with machines.

Chocolate and marzipan

Moulding and decorating call for different techniques from bread. See how liquid, soft and hardened material each need their own tools and pace.

Children join in

Decorating a biscuit makes one production step tangible, but demonstrations mainly take place between 11.00 and 15.00. During the holidays, separate parties are limited because of the crowds.

Before you go

Tuesday–Sunday 11.00–17.00; Monday only during school holidays, and completely closed to the public on four named public holidays.
